The Assignment of the Holy Spirit
He Is With You, Comforts You, and Reveals Jesus
“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever.” — John 14:16
The Holy Spirit is not simply a theological concept or an impersonal force. He is God Himself, actively working in and through our lives. His purpose is to make Jesus real to us so we can experience His love, presence and power.
Jesus called the Holy Spirit the Comforter and promised that He would remain with us forever:
“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” — John 14:18
We are never abandoned or left to face life alone. The Holy Spirit is our helper, comforter and guide.
The Holy Spirit Comforts Us
Life brings challenges and seasons when we feel overwhelmed, but the Holy Spirit is present in the midst of them. He brings strength, hope and peace, and the comfort we receive from Him enables us to comfort others.
“Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble.” — 2 Corinthians 1:4
The Holy Spirit Reveals Jesus
The Holy Spirit glorifies Jesus and opens our spiritual eyes to understand His love, sacrifice and power. He makes Jesus more than someone we know about—He makes Him a living reality in our hearts.
The disciples on the road to Emmaus walked with Jesus but did not recognise Him until their eyes were opened (Luke 24:13–32). In the same way, the Holy Spirit helps us truly recognise and know Jesus.
The Holy Spirit Teaches Us
Jesus said:
“The Comforter… shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance.” — John 14:26
The Holy Spirit teaches us God’s Word, reminds us of what Jesus has said and gives us wisdom to apply Scripture to everyday life. He can bring a verse to our remembrance at exactly the right moment.
“His anointing teacheth you of all things.” — 1 John 2:27
You Are Never Alone
Joseph experienced betrayal, slavery and imprisonment, yet “the Lord was with Joseph” (Genesis 39:2).
The same is true for us. Whatever we face and wherever we go, the Holy Spirit is with us.
